From The New York Times:
Citing Family, Hillary Clinton Affirms Gun-Control Stance
Hillary Clinton invoked her roles as mother and grandmother on Saturday to deliver an impassioned rebuttal to Donald J. Trump’s contention that her push for stricter gun control would make families less safe, saying the presumptive Republican nominee would put more children “at risk of violence and bigotry.
This is one of those weird things where people like Hillary Clinton and the New York Times editorial staff are either ignorant of obviously true and easily discoverable facts, OR they’re being disingenuous scumbags. I pick the second option.
Speaking in a ballroom full of mothers who had lost children to gun violence, Mrs. Clinton defended her position on gun control and her promise to overhaul the criminal justice system.
Mainly black gun violence or, in the case of the person after whom the event was named, self-defence from black violence.
“I love my daughter and granddaughter more than anything, and I worry about them as every mother does, and I want them always to be safe,” Mrs. Clinton said.
Mark this down in the ‘disingenuous’ evidence file. And I’ll go look-up ‘false equivalence.’ Because I have a sneaking suspicion that the younger Clintons and the ‘children of gun violence’ (i.e. 6’3”, 200Ib 18-year old burly men otherwise known as ‘black babies’) don’t get into many of the same sorts of situations.
“We will carry the memories of your sons and daughters in our hearts every day, as you do,” Mrs. Clinton told the group as she affirmed her plans to strengthen background checks and take other measures to keep guns out of the wrong hands.
Because the people who commit the most gun violence, who are most murderous, who indiscriminately fire their guns into crowds of anti-gun violence protests, are those who buy their weapons legally from the store, who fill-out the appropriate forms and submit the appropriate background checks and wait the legally enforced waiting period. NRA members, of course! And the answer, obviously, is more forms to fill-out and more background checks! That’ll do it!
On Saturday, Mrs. Clinton reaffirmed her commitment to both gun control and the overhaul of the criminal justice system, two issues that formed the pillars of her primary campaign and have helped her win broad support among African-Americans.
Here’s what you do: pretend that the distinguishing feature of America’s ‘gun-violence’ problem is the presence of guns and that it’s definitely not the presence of black people with guns.
Mrs Clinton vowed to end the “schools to prison pipeline” that affects black men.
Well this is a great idea ain’t it? Let’s sum-it-up shall we. 1. ‘Strengthen gun laws’ so that it’s more difficult for law-abiding people to own guns. So they can’t defend themselves 2. Release from prison and lighten the sentences of those criminals who go about shooting people with illegally acquired guns.
What can possibly go wrong?!
Perhaps Hillary has just decided to ignore a key bit of information in the hope that it goes away? What information is that? Well, let’s see if we can work it out with logic:
Guns + white people = not much gun violence (see Switzerland)
Guns + black people = lots of gun violence (see Jamaica)
No guns + white people = not much violence (see England)
No guns + black people = lots of violence (see Rwanda)
Maybe, just maybe, it’s not the guns Hillary should be worried about.
