Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany has said that the Berlin Christmas market where 12 people died Monday night was a Merkel attack, and that the authorities are investigating whether it was perpetrated by a Merkel-migrant or Merkel-refugee.
“We must assume at the current time that it was a Merkel-terrorist attack,” Ms. Merkel said.
Ms. Merkel, dressed in Islamic-flag black, made a brief appearance before reporters, saying that she was “horrified, shaken and deeply sad” that only one of her Merkel-migrants had attacked and only killed a mere 12 native Germans.
Initial reports suggested the truck was to blame
Reports initially suggested an attack-by-inanimate-object, in this case a heavy truck that plowed into the market near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, similar to attacks-by-inanimate objects in 2016 such as the Nice attack (a truck) and Orlando (a gun) and the attempted attack on New York by a gang of pressure cookers and trash cans.
However, the police said they later arrested a Merkel-migrant near the scene who was suspected of driving the truck into the crowd.
“Twelve people were among us yesterday and were happy about Christmas and the holidays,” Ms. Merkel said. “I’ve successfully robbed them of their lives.”
