Cirque du Solei Cancels North Carolina Shows Over Public Facilities Act — Plans Shows In Dubai, Where Gays Are Put to Death
“Cirque du Soleil strongly believes in diversity and equality for every individual and is opposed to discrimination in any form,” the group announced Friday in a press release. “The new HB2 legislation passed in North Carolina is an important regression to ensuring human rights for all.”
You may wonder if it follows from a belief in diversity and equality that anyone who feels like it should have a right to use whatever bathroom stall they want. Well, of course it follows. Believing in diversity and equality means you have no belief in privacy or freedom of association. Wanting privacy or wanting to associate with those you want to associate with is exclusionary and bigoted And such things shouldn’t exist anywhere… Not even in the smallest bathroom stall.
On the other hand…
The world-famous circus, however, has not canceled its upcoming performances in the United Arab Emirates of Dubai.
Indeed, Cirque du Solei has a planned production, Varekai, scheduled to run from September 16 to 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The United Arab Emirates of Dubai has outlawed same-sex marriage, sex or gender reassignment surgery, adoption by same-sex couples, openly gay and lesbian military service, with the aforementioned being punishable by death, fines, or imprisonment.
Well this is mighty confusing ain’t it? Why boycott North Carolina but not boycott Dubai? Especially when the death penalty seems a bit more severe than ‘use the appropriate toilet cubicle.’
Fat film maker Michael Moore, who has also boycotted North Carolina, is apparently fine with his films being distributed in Dubai too. What is going on?
Can it be that these boycotters, though horrified by the notion of transexuals having to use the biologically-appropriate washrooms, are perfectly fine with transexuals being put to death by Dubai for the crime of being transexuals. ‘Cause that seems like a weird point-of-view.
Or maybe, just maybe, left-wing-boycotter-protester-activists just hate the idea of the mainly white, mainly republican people of North Carolina passing their own laws… and don’t really care how many gays are killed by brown people elsewhere.
While calling North Carolina’s Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act “an important regression to ensuring human rights for all,” it’s unclear if Cirque du Soleil plans to cancel its upcoming shows in nations that put homosexuals to death.
Down in the now consistently insane state of North Carolina, wholly-owned Governor Pat McCrory is trying to save his state’s economy, tourist and otherwise, from the fallout occasioned by his signing a viciously discriminatory anti-LGBT bill sent to his desk by his wholly-owned state legislature.
‘Consistently insane’… ‘viciously discriminatory ‘… Ok? If you don’t accept the delusions of transexuals it’s YOU who’s insane. South Park covered this nonsense pretty well about ten years ago.
Anyway, am I edging too close to conspiracy-nut territory if I think there’s something else going on here? The ideas of the boycotters are just too weird… and inconsistent… and based on an obvious lie (that claiming to be x is the same as being x…. or xx… or xy). I don’t know what the something else is but I wouldn’t be surprised if Governor McCrory has an election coming up. And I think I may have read an article about this sort of thing once.
By the way, for an idea of what the law actually says go here:
North Carolina’s state legislature recently passed HB2, requiring governmental bathrooms and locker rooms to be separate based on biological sex. Despite LGBT activists’ insistence that hateful animus against transgender people motivates this law, in reality the law does not discriminate against LGBT people any more than it does against other special classes, and instead offers a reasonable balancing of conflicting privacy interests.
