Mulan star Ming-Na Wen among those to criticise Hollywood for ‘whitewashing’ anime classic by failing to cast Asian actor as Major Kusanagi
As usual, I’m pretty confused. Apparently, it’s a Bad Thing for a white person to play a character who is usually non-white. And that’s why it’s wrong and terrible and awful and racist for Scarlet Johanson to be playing Major Kusanagi in the up-coming Ghost in the Shell film.
Meanwhile, everybody’s apparently very keen for Idris Elba to be Bond. And for Paterson Joseph to be Doctor Who.
Anyway, can’t the Japanese film industry just go ahead and make a Japanese-filled live action Ghost in the Shell... Japanese and American versions of Godzilla seem to co-exist perfectly well. And maybe the Nigerian film industry can make their own Bond series too. Featuring black Bond and black Jaws and black Blofeld… Sounds pretty great no? And it probably already exists too!
Note: Let’s not forget that all things, especially James Bond, are racist. Black people, living gods that they are, should not degrade themselves by being associated with such horrid racism.
Note 2: In answer to your question yes, of course racism and blasphemy are the same thing. Don’t you even know that!?
